Fish head & swimmer crab stew

A few days ago I decided to give Fish tacos another try. I am not sure why, but I cant seems to find a fry batter I really like, and I keep failing at making a really yummy sauce to top the fish and coleslaw. To make matters worse, I cant decide if I like corn or flour tortillas better. It a very confusing topic, and things can (and usually do) go wrong.
So we walked into the fish market at the Gushikawa/Awase pier, and found a bunch of yummy ocean creatures that I had many many plans for! Only problem is...I hate frozen fish. Even if its super fresh, the freezer does something pretty nasty to fish. So I bought just enough to make two meals.
1- Two small white fish, to make 5 fish tacos.
2- I asked the guys who clean, scale and fillet the fish, to bag up the bones and heads. In the same bag we bought 4 swimmer crabs. They were adorable (and yes still alive!!!) Little blue, grey and silver crabs, with very little meat. Primarily used to flavor broth for soups and stews. Which was what I wanted the heads, bones and crabs for!

~I added a mixture of veggies (mushrooms, leeks, cabbage, and carrots) to water mixed with a touch of miso paste and soy.
Top w/ fish heads and bones.
~Lucky for me, the fish market guys chopped the crabs in half, and by the time we got home and the little guys sat in the fridge for about a hour, they seemed to be dead. So it was no problem for me to throw them into the stew steamer and not feel guilty about me being the one who killed the little guys!
So I topped the stew w/ the crabs.

~I seasoned w/ some garlic salt, fresh ground pepper and some chunks of butter, and we were really to rock and roll!!!!
There was no time, or desire to take pictures of the aftermath, because everyone ran into the kitchen to get their bowl full of stew and dig in! My house smelled amazing, and the stew tasted even better then it smelled!!!
This is defiantly something I will make often! We all loved it, despite Sophia being slightly afraid of the crab shells...Shes a girl, and things like this are scary!

Why, hello there!

Not a HUGE change, but something to spice up this boring blog... Along w/ the cute new title, im going to start in a new direction. W/ Claytons health issues, Colins open attitude, and a toddler who will try anything once, I thought I should make this more food/vegetarian friendly, and kid friendly. Now, not all of my posts will be focused on boring kid food, I will try to thow a little bit of everything in here, while still keeping you posted on my excersize and weight updates =)

A quick dinner update.
Last night I made my Roasted red pepper pasta sauce. Hubby says each time I make it (which is OFTEN) it gets better and better! How sweet is he?!
I mixed in some grilled asparagus and eggplant chunks, and had it all over some really yummy cheese raviolis! (BTW, I cant wait to go on our vacation, to buy my pasta machine! I have plans to make all kinds of pastas! Wheats, filled pastas w/ all kinds of goodies, and lasagna GALORE!)
Anyway, dinner was great! I had one small bowl, I think the ice cream, after the boys last b-ball practice, filled me up (SHAME on me...lol)

Yesterday and the day before I ran 1.5 miles each day! Not anything to brag about, but it was HOT and HUMID, so I was feeling really tired. But on the other hand, I feel like I could be catching Clay's strep throat he has last week. Maybe thats why I have been grouchy, and so tired? I REALLY dont need strep, I have TONS of things to get done around here before we leave for CA!
